Liberating! Perfect title for this book, because it frees you from the limitations that Christianity has placed on us. I grew up Catholic, so according to my faith, I was born a sinner. I was always in fear of not being good enough to get into 'heaven', and repenting for sins that I didn't even know I committed as a child. Liberating Jesus, allows you to explore and understand the true teachings of Jesus, and his message of love and forgiveness, not fear and repentance. This book is a MUST have. I never understood the Gospels, but methodically followed along as the Priest attempted to recite them. Roberta breaks them down for you in a way that you will not only understand, but will leave you feeling joy and happiness.
Liberating Jesus is not a religious book, but rather a book that will open your heart and navigate you to the true teachings of Christ.

Liberating Jesus Roberta Grimes 9780692542811 Books Reviews
Liberating Jesus is by far one of the best spirituality books I have read in a long time. And it’s aptly named. It liberates Jesus and his teachings from the fear and anguish of the last two centuries and shows us once again what a loving God we have.
I know many found this book to be controversial. Granted, her message can be unsettling if you blindly cling to religion. Ms. Grimes talks about God not judging us at the time of our death but rather us judging ourselves. She explains how God is a loving Being who wants us to return to him and, in the words of Jesus, has shown us the Way. What is controversial about that? Maybe many prefer living under a shroud of fear and foreboding. Certainly it is familiar territory. Not me. I prefer living in a state of love and forgiveness. Maybe that’s the lesson that is so hard. Unconditional love and forgiveness – not for the faint of heart. It’s a tough lesson to practice. Yes, it’s easier to just claim Jesus as your savior, say he died for your sins, and then sit back passively and wait for Heaven. In this book, Roberta clearly shows this is not to be the case. Jesus’ lesson is clear. We’re here to learn to love and forgive. Period. And until we get that right, we will continue to recycle.
I highly recommend this book if you not only want to be shaken out of your comfort zone but also be given the hope and love you have been looking for.
For background, I need to note that I have read Roberta’s book The Fun of Dying as well as Liberating Jesus. I listen to her podcasts and am very appreciative for the interviews that she has conducted about afterlife issues. I was drawn to Roberta‘s writings because of my identification with her as a fellow skeptic that has been gradually convinced of the evidence that consciousness exists outside of our brains and that the afterlife is a reality. What causes me the most admiration as well as uncomfortableness about what she writes in this book is her firm conviction that Liberating Jesus was written in direct channeled communication between Thomas Jefferson and the Lord himself with her. I admire that she’s willing to put herself out there by making this claim, knowing the reaction that many would have to such a claim; namely, dismissing her as a kook. I want what she claims to be the truth. I know there is no way to verify or corroborate that claim. Nevertheless, in my own heart and spiritual believes I agree with her, namely that Christianity has corrupted the real message of Jesus. Whether or not Jesus has used her to correct that message will have to be left up to her, Thomas, and Him. I most definitely want it to be true.
If you read this book with an open mind you will be amazed at the Love that Jesus intended to bring to this Earth but that Love has been hijacked by religious fanatics that have twisted his message to fit their fear based concept of God. Anyone that believes that the entire Bible was written by God should be made aware of the fact that there are currently several thousand original manuscripts or manuscript segments of the Bible in existence today and not a single copy is identical to the next. To believe that the word of God could be preserved by an often times corrupt church is beyond logic. Roberta has done an excellent job of identitfing the true words of Jesus vs. the church added words that were attibuted to Jesus. The inconsistencies of God between the Old Testament and the New Testament have driven many Christians away from the church. The elitisum that many Christians profess about they being the only ones that will make it to heaven has driven even more away (including myself). Roberta's book sheds a whole new light on who Jesus really was and what his purpose was when he was here.
Great read but I think it will be controversial for sure! I read Roberta Grimes' book, The Fun of Dying, which was completely AWESOME. Deep inside, I knew Liberating Jesus was a must read for me as well. Growing up Catholic and going to Catholic school most of my years, I had never developed real faith or had any kind of relationship with Jesus. I know I was supposed to, but I just didn't. Reading Liberating Jesus has given me something I didn't have before and that is the possibility of faith. Also experiencing that Jesus was (and IS) real and how profound His teachings are.
This is certainly not a religious book as a book to help us live lives of love, forgiveness and faith. Plus, Roberta shares some of her life after death knowledge as well, which is so powerful. We have no fear of living, when we have no fear of dying. Our lives are for purposes and we are important, mighty and loved. There is lots more for me to experience in this lifetime of education for my soul, but now I have some true practices and when I take the time to quiet my mind, know that I have some invisible help alongside of me. I recently me the author Roberta Grimes and here is a picture of her holding my book, We Don't Die and me holding Liberating Jesus. She is one lovely and LOVING woman. Great read!
